Wreaths Across America

Wreaths Across America is an event to pay tribute to fallen members of the military, honor those who serve and their families, and teach our children the value of freedom by placing wreaths on military graves at the holiday season.  More than 1,000 locations around the country will take part in Wreaths Across America, including 24 offshore cemeteries, and ships in the Seven Seas.

The laying of the wreaths on military graves at Wyuka cemetery will be Saturday, December 17, 2016. The half-hour program begins at 11:00 a.m. at the new Soldiers Circle, south of the Vine Street entrance. Wreath-layers are welcome to meet in the maintenance building for refreshments at 10:30 am. We will lay wreaths in the original Soldiers Circle at 11:30 a.m. Cadets from the 155th Nebraska Wing Civil Air Patrol, the Lincoln AFJROTC squadron, and an active military representative will present special wreaths bearing individual military branch flags and that of the POW/MIA. The program will include music by Lisa Dilley. The keynote speaker is former U.S. Senator E. Benjamin Nelson. The public is welcome to attend this event, which is Wyuka’s seventh year to participate in Wreaths Across America. We are the only cemetery in Lincoln to do so.

A public kick-off ceremony for Wreaths Across America in Nebraska will be held in the Warner Chamber at the state capitol, Monday, December 12, 11:00 a.m. This program includes the AFJROTC Color Guard and musical selections by the McPhee Elementary Chorus. The Governor’s Proclamation will be read and the capitol wreath will be presented to Senator Matt Hansen, District 26 (Wyuka). Remarks will be offered by Brig Gen Wendy K. Johnson, Nebraska Air National Guard. Other Wreaths Across America location coordinators from across Nebraska are invited.
